5 Important Tips to Care for Your Eyelash Extensions – 2021
So your lash technician just gave you a nice set of eyelash extensions – be it cat eye or dolly, gorgeous or volume – but good things are never meant to last forever. Here are 5 very important tips to ensure that they last as long as possible, so that you can look your best at the upcoming special occasion without needing extra effort on your eye makeup.
1. Avoid touching your eyelashes
Minor irritation is normal for up to a few hours; If you experience swelling or inflammation, consult a GP as this could be an allergic reaction.
Avoid touching your lashes, at least for an hour or two; Just as you leave your glue to dry when doing art & craft, allow the lash glue to cure completely so that you can have longer lasting lashes.
Adopt of upward facing sleeping position for the first night of getting your lash extensions as well.
2. Keep your eyelashes dry
Avoid wetting your eyelash extensions for at least 8 hours, ideally up to 24 hours; Again, this is to allow the lash glue to cure properly. Of course there are times it is absolutely unavoidable to get your eye area wet – like washing your face for instance – so it’s best to dry them off immediately.
3. Avoid using products
Do not use eyelash products like mascaras or serums – those are meant for your natural lashes. There are good and bad reasons for using mascara on eyelash extensions, but in my opinion certain products may react adversely to the lash glue causing them to fail prematurely. If it is unavoidable, try to use water based instead of oil based products. This applies to your makeup remover as well.
4. Avoid heat and steam
Avoid exposing your lashes to excessive heat. The weather in Singapore is already very hot, so all the more you should avoid exposing your lashes to additional hot and oily steam at your favourite hotpot place. If you’re really craving for it, definitely avoid the wind facing direction to protect those precious lashes.
5. Never pluck your extensions
Do not pull out your lashes forcefully. Not only does it hurt, it can damage the roots of your natural eyelashes, causing poorer lashes to grow in future. If you’re itching, try brushing it with the free lash brush given to you.
Always books a session with your lash artist to remove them properly.
If you take heed on the above advice, your eyelash extensions will last longer. However, it may still be necessary to book a touch-up or lash fill every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain the consistency and look of your eyelashes.
